Author Guidelines

The American Journal of Medical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Research
ISSN: 2689-1026

The American Journal of Medical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Research welcomes original research, review articles, case reports, and other scholarly contributions in medical sciences, pharmaceutical research, and related disciplines.

Authors should follow these guidelines to prepare a complete, clearly written, and ethically sound submission.

1. General Submission Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear English and submitted in an editable Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).

  • Submissions must be original and must not be under consideration by another journal.

  • All authors must approve the manuscript and agree to its submission.

  • Related publications, preprints, and substantial overlap with earlier work must be disclosed.

  • Authors should submit through the journal’s online submission system. Any alternative submission method must be confirmed by the editorial office.

2. Manuscript Formatting

Use a consistent, readable layout throughout the manuscript:

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point.

  • Line spacing: Double spacing.

  • Margins: 2.54 cm (1 inch) on all sides.

  • Page numbering: Number all pages consecutively.

  • Headings: Use a clear hierarchy for sections and subsections.

  • Abbreviations: Define abbreviations at their first appearance.

  • Units: Use standard SI units where appropriate.

Use editable text for tables and equations wherever possible.

3. Files Required for Submission

To support double-blind peer review, submit the following separately:

Title page: Include author names, affiliations, contact details, and other identifying information.

Anonymized manuscript: Remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and identifying information from the manuscript and file properties. Cite previous work objectively without revealing authorship.

Additional files: Provide figures, supplementary materials, and relevant supporting documents where applicable. Confidential consent records should be retained securely and supplied only when specifically requested through an appropriate channel.

4. Title Page

The title page should include:

  • A concise and informative article title.

  • Full names of all authors in the agreed order.

  • Department, institution, city, and country for each author.

  • Corresponding author’s name and email address.

  • ORCID iDs, where available.

  • Funding information and conflict-of-interest declarations.

  • Author contributions and acknowledgements.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and ensuring that all coauthors receive relevant updates.

5. Abstract and Keywords

The abstract should summarize the purpose, methods, main findings, and conclusions of the work. Avoid references and unexplained abbreviations.

For original research, use a structured abstract with the following headings:

Background · Objective · Methods · Results · Conclusion

Review articles and case reports may use an abstract structure appropriate to their content.

Provide four to six keywords below the abstract. Use specific terms that help readers discover the article; Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) may be used where suitable.

6. Structure of Original Research Articles

Introduction

Explain the background, relevant literature, research gap, and study objectives.

Materials and Methods

Provide sufficient detail to allow readers to understand and evaluate the research. Where applicable, describe:

  • Study design, setting, and dates.

  • Participant selection, eligibility criteria, and sample size.

  • Procedures, interventions, instruments, and outcome measures.

  • Statistical methods and software.

  • Ethics approval, informed consent, and trial registration.

For pharmaceutical studies, identify relevant compounds, formulations, doses, routes of administration, experimental conditions, and analytical methods.

Results

Present findings clearly and in a logical sequence. Report relevant numerical results, measures of uncertainty, and statistical outcomes. Avoid repeating all information from tables or figures in the text.

Discussion

Interpret the findings in relation to the study objectives and existing evidence. Explain the implications, limitations, and generalizability of the research. Avoid conclusions unsupported by the results.

Conclusion

State the main findings and their significance concisely. Recommendations should follow directly from the evidence presented.

7. Other Article Types

Review Articles

Reviews should define their purpose and scope, critically assess the literature, and identify limitations and research gaps.

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses must describe the search strategy, eligibility criteria, study selection, quality assessment, and synthesis methods. Provide protocol registration details where applicable.

Case Reports

Case reports should explain the clinical significance of the case and include relevant patient information, clinical findings, diagnostic assessment, intervention, follow-up, and outcomes.

Protect patient identity and include a statement confirming consent for publication where required.

Short Communications

Short communications should present focused findings concisely while providing sufficient methodological detail and supporting evidence.

8. Tables, Figures, and Supplementary Materials

  • Number tables and figures consecutively in the order they are cited.

  • Give each table a descriptive title and each figure a clear caption.

  • Explain abbreviations, symbols, and statistical indicators in accompanying notes.

  • Supply clear, high-resolution figures suitable for publication.

  • Identify any image adjustments and avoid alterations that misrepresent the evidence.

  • Obtain permission for copyrighted material where required and provide appropriate credit.

  • Label supplementary files clearly and refer to them in the manuscript.

9. References

Use a consistent numbered reference style, with sources numbered in the order of their first appearance in the text.

Reference entries should provide sufficient information to identify the source, including author names, title, publication details, and DOI where available.

Journal article format:

Author surname and initials. Article title. Journal title. Year;volume(issue) range or article number. DOI.

Authors must verify that references are accurate, relevant, and support the associated statements. Identify preprints as preprints and avoid unnecessary self-citation.

10. Ethics Approval and Informed Consent

Research involving human participants, identifiable human data, or animal subjects must include the relevant ethical approval or exemption statement.

Where applicable, provide:

  • The name of the approving ethics committee.

  • Approval number or reference.

  • A statement concerning informed consent.

  • Clinical trial registry name and registration number.

  • Confirmation of consent for publication of identifiable patient information.

An exemption or waiver must be explained and attributed to the appropriate approving body. Authors must not include unnecessary patient identifiers.

11. Reporting Guidelines

Use the reporting guideline appropriate to the study design, including:

  • CONSORT: Randomized controlled trials.

  • STROBE: Observational studies.

  • PRISMA: Systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

  • CARE: Case reports.

  • ARRIVE: Animal research.

  • STARD: Diagnostic accuracy studies.

Submit an applicable checklist or flow diagram where relevant.

12. Required Declarations

Include the following statements, as applicable:

Funding: Identify financial support and explain the funder’s role.

Conflicts of Interest: Declare relevant financial and non-financial interests. State explicitly if there are none.

Author Contributions: Describe each author’s contribution to the work.

Data Availability: Explain how supporting data may be accessed or why access is restricted.

Acknowledgements: Recognize contributions that do not qualify for authorship, with permission from the individuals named.

Ethics Approval and Consent: Provide the relevant approval, exemption, and consent information.

Identifying declarations should be placed in the separate title page or submission fields during double-blind review.

13. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Disclose substantive use of generative AI in writing, analysis, or content creation. Identify the tool and explain how it was used.

AI tools cannot qualify as authors. Authors remain responsible for checking the accuracy, originality, references, and integrity of all submitted material. Confidential research data and patient information must be protected.

14. Peer Review and Revisions

Submissions undergo initial editorial assessment followed by independent peer review where suitable. The journal uses double-blind review, normally involving at least two reviewers.

If revisions are requested, submit:

  • A revised manuscript.

  • A point-by-point response to reviewer and editor comments.

  • A clear explanation of changes and scientifically justified disagreements.

Acceptance depends on satisfactory assessment of the manuscript and any revisions.

15. Publication Charges

There is no fee for submission or peer review. Any applicable Article Processing Charge is payable only after formal acceptance and is disclosed on the journal’s Article Processing Charges page.

Payment does not guarantee acceptance or influence editorial decisions.

16. Copyright and Open Access

Authors retain copyright in their work. Published articles are made freely available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), unless otherwise stated.

This license permits sharing and adaptation, including commercial reuse, provided that appropriate attribution is given, the license is linked, and changes are indicated.

17. Proofs and Author Responsibilities

Authors must check publication proofs carefully, including names, affiliations, tables, figures, references, and numerical information.
