Mathematics is not just a science of numbers and figures, it is a science of history, of
human destiny. Mathematicians give machine builders and architects, physicists and
chemists, biologists and economists, and even the military a number of methods for
studying complex processes. The article discusses the contribution of mathematicians to
the victory over the enemy in World War II
