Improving The Energy Efficiency Of Wastewater Treatment Facilities During Reconstruction

Buliukova Iuliia Rustemovna

Read Abstract

The present work provides a structured examination of approaches for improving the energy efficiency of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) under conditions of deep reconstruction. Against the backdrop of pronounced volatility in energy markets in 2022–2023—when EU electricity prices reached record levels in the first half of 2023—the reduction of operating expenditures became a priority engineering and economic objective. Within the study framework, a benchmarking methodology based on specific indicators (kWh/m³, ) is considered; a comparative analysis of technological solutions for CAS and MBR configurations is carried out; and the attainability of partial energy self-sufficiency through biogas cogeneration is assessed. Scientific novelty is associated with the development of an integrated model for selecting a modernization strategy that accounts for equipment performance, operational constraints, and the digitalization potential embedded in the “water sector digital transformation / Water 4.0” logic. The results indicate that advanced control (including AI/ML-based decision support where data quality allows) and modern membrane technologies can enable a 20–30% reduction in energy consumption while maintaining compliance with stringent environmental requirements. The material is oriented toward chief engineers of design organizations, specialists of utility operating services, and developers of environmental protection equipment.

STUDYING THE COMPOSITION OF LOCAL RAW MATERIAL SAPONITE MINERAL RICH IN MAGNESIUM OXIDE AND RECOVERING CHLORIDE-CHLORATE FROM IT

Umirov Farkhod Ergashovich, Pirnazarov Feruz Gulomovich

Read Abstract

One of the saponite sand deposits in the territory of Uzbekistan is Uchtut, located in the Central Kyzylkum plains of the Navoi region of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was determined that the main layer of saponite is 1.7-1.9 m apart in some places, 10-15.0 cm thick (40-60% saponite), and in some places it is in the form of two layers. 15.0-20.0 cm (20-40% saponite). The mineralogical composition of saponite obtained from the Uchtut deposit was studied by chemical, X-ray phase, IR spectroscopic, differential thermal analysis, as well as gamma-spectrometric methods. The main mineral in the deposit is saponite, which is a multi-purpose mineral raw material and has been found to contain high levels of magnesium and calcium. The saponite mineral was roasted in a muffle furnace at different temperatures. The cinder was leached in three different percentage solutions of acid, as a result, magnesium chloride was obtained by roasting the saponite mineral at a temperature of 600-800C, and leached using the hydrocloric acid decomposition method, and in the next step by treating it with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate.

UNLOCKING SUSTAINABILITY: MICRONISED BIOMASS SILICA AS A NOVEL CEMENT REPLACEMENT IN CONCRETE

A.R. Hanita

Read Abstract

The pursuit of sustainable construction materials has driven innovative research into alternative cementitious components that can reduce the environmental footprint of concrete production. This study explores the utilization of micronised biomass silica as a novel cement replacement material in concrete formulations. Micronised biomass silica, derived from agricultural waste, offers not only an eco-friendly solution to waste management but also the potential to enhance concrete properties. This paper presents a comprehensive investigation into the effects of incorporating micronised biomass silica on the mechanical, durability, and environmental performance of concrete. Through a combination of experimental testing and analytical analysis, the study demonstrates the feasibility of harnessing this bio-sourced material to advance sustainable construction practices.
