IOT Sensor Node Placement Model and Algorithm for Water-Efficient Irrigation
Abstract
The increasing water scarcity has led to the rational use of water resources in agricultural fields and the automation of irrigation processes. This problem is being solved by using IoT technologies and wireless sensor networks to monitor land areas and irrigate only those areas that need water. This, in turn, is directly related to the correct placement of these sensor nodes in the fields to increase their efficiency. With the correct placement of sensor nodes, the monitoring accuracy increases, the coverage area is fully ensured, and energy consumption is reduced, and the number of sensors is controlled. This study models the placement of IoT sensor nodes for water-saving irrigation systems and develops an algorithm that is aimed at determining the location of sensor nodes, taking into account the geometric characteristics of the field, the coverage radius of the sensors, and the communication capabilities. The proposed approach allows for real-time monitoring of the irrigation process, reliable control of soil moisture, efficient use of water resources, and increased coverage and energy efficiency of the wireless sensor network.
