Authors Retain Copyright

Authors retain copyright in articles published in The American Journal of Agriculture and Biomedical Engineering. Authors are not required to transfer copyright ownership to the journal.

Upon acceptance, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive right to publish, distribute, and archive their work, and to identify itself as the original publisher.

Authors must hold the necessary rights and permissions to authorize publication of all material included in their manuscript.

Creative Commons License

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), unless otherwise stated on the article.

This license permits anyone to:

  • Access and download: Read, download, save, and print articles free of charge.

  • Share: Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.

  • Adapt: Translate, modify, and build upon the material.

  • Reuse: Use the material for educational, research, and commercial purposes.

Users must credit the original authors and source, provide a link to the license, and indicate whether changes have been made. Attribution must not imply endorsement by the authors or the journal.

Users must not impose additional legal restrictions or technological measures that prevent others from exercising the rights granted by the license.

Full license: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License

Author Sharing and Reuse

Authors may share and reuse their published articles without requesting additional permission from the journal. This includes:

  • Depositing the published version in institutional or subject repositories without an embargo.

  • Sharing articles on personal websites and scholarly platforms.

  • Distributing copies to colleagues, students, and other readers.

  • Using material in teaching, presentations, theses, and dissertations.

  • Incorporating material into subsequent scholarly work with appropriate acknowledgement and disclosure.

Shared copies should include the complete citation, the applicable license, and the article’s DOI or permanent URL where available.

Copyright ownership does not remove the obligation to disclose overlap or comply with policies concerning duplicate publication.

Attribution Requirements

When sharing or adapting an article, users should include:

  • Author names and article title.

  • Journal name and publication details.

  • DOI or permanent article URL, where available.

  • A statement identifying the CC BY 4.0 license and a link to it.

  • An indication of any changes, translations, or adaptations.

Adapted material must be clearly distinguished from the original published work.

Third-Party Material

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material where required. This may include photographs, figures, tables, maps, technical drawings, medical images, software extracts, and substantial quotations.

Third-party material may carry separate reuse conditions, which must be identified in the relevant credit line. It is covered by the article’s Creative Commons license only where the rights holder’s permissions allow it.

Users must obtain permission directly from the relevant rights holder when their intended reuse is not covered by the applicable license or a permitted legal exception.

Data, Software, and Supplementary Materials

Datasets, source code, research instruments, design files, and supplementary materials may have separate licenses or access restrictions. Users should consult the conditions attached to each resource before reuse.

The article’s Creative Commons license does not authorize access to confidential records, restricted databases, or unpublished research materials.

Authors must not apply an open license to material for which they do not hold the necessary rights.

Patient Privacy and Participant Consent

Open-access publication does not remove obligations concerning patient privacy, participant confidentiality, or consent.

Identifiable photographs, medical images, case descriptions, and other personal information must be published with appropriate consent or authorization. Reuse must respect applicable privacy rights and the conditions under which the material was published.

Permission to reuse an article does not authorize access to confidential patient records or unpublished participant data.

Patents and Biological Materials

The article’s Creative Commons license does not automatically grant patent rights or authorize use of protected inventions, medical devices, or proprietary technologies.

Permission to reuse published content does not, by itself, authorize access to or transfer of seeds, genetic resources, biological specimens, or other research materials. Such materials may be subject to separate agreements, permissions, and regulatory requirements.

License Continuity

The CC BY 4.0 license cannot be withdrawn from users who continue to comply with its terms.

A correction or retraction does not automatically revoke permissions already granted. Anyone sharing or reusing an affected article should identify its current status and link to the relevant correction or retraction notice.

Copyright Complaints

Suspected copyright infringement should be reported to the editorial office with the article details, a description of the concern, and supporting evidence.

The journal will assess the complaint, seek clarification where appropriate, and take action under its Publication Ethicspolicy. Depending on the findings, this may include correcting attribution, removing material that cannot lawfully remain available, or issuing an editorial notice.

Contact

For questions about copyright, licensing, attribution, or reuse permissions, please contact the editorial office through the journal’s official Contact page.
